Mebos is known as one of the oldest confections made in the Cape. Traditionally, apricots were processed this way to preserve them for longer, but it has since become a favourite amongst many South Africans. Mebos is a sweet that is made from dried apricots that are pulped and flavoured with sugar and salt. Only the very best, ripe apricots are used. Once flavoured, the apricot pulp is shaped into circles or sticks. It is said that the name derives from the Arabic “mush mush” which translates to apricot.

For those who have not yet tasted this snack, the mix of sweet, salt, and sour may come as an initial shock to the system, but the more you try it, the more you will fall in love. With its high sugar content, mebos is also the perfect way to boost your energy during those afternoon slumps.

At MultiSnack, we manufacture and supply this age-old fruit sweet in bulk. Available as plain mebos, or as mebos sticks, this is a convenient and affordable snacking option.

Tasty mebos, fruit dainties, and more…

What about our fruit dainties and other snacks?

Fruit dainties are another popular South African snack that is enjoyed by children and adults alike. The difference between mebos and other fruit sweets is that mebos is made only of apricots, while other fruit dainties can be made from various kinds of fruit.

We have a selection of fruit dainties available at MultiSnack, manufactured from a mixture of dried fruits. Most often, we use dried peaches, pears, and apricots, to manufacture our fruit dainties, which are then coloured and shaped into bite-sized squares or sticks for convenience.

All our products are processed or manufactured in our own factory, this includes our fruit dainties and mebos. This way, we can monitor the production process to make sure that the products we are providing are of a superior standard.
